And, taking advantage of our Istanbul getaway 2013, we have brought a series of dishes not to fail to try on future visits to Turkey (or at least, to serve as a reminder), which complement in more detail what we had already seen from other countries in the Middle East.
Turkish Gastronomy, in general, has many influences from these and Balkan Gastronomy (images, as always, taken from Google Images), and its diversity of ingredients and dishes is uncountable. Here are our ESSENTIALS to try a visit to the country (in addition to those already listed):
Soups of all kinds, such as Bulama (from Yogurth and Ayran)
Variety of eggplants, usually stuffed
Bread pasta stuffed with cheese, minced meat and vegetables
Similar to a pizza, but includes minced meat, onion, pepper, etc ...
Turkey's most characteristic fish prepared
Chicken prepared with a special honey sauce
Multitude of variant beef, lamb or grilled chicken
Spiced minced lamb meatloaf species
Typical Istanbul meat stew served in a vessel that breaks
Beef or lamb stew with carrots and spices
Dessert of crushed walnuts and syrup or honey cake
Sweet jelly-like jelly soft
Typical turkey aniseed liquor made from fruits
Popular drink from sheep's milk yogurt
Very black coffee made much more ground than espresso and with grounds
We do not delve deeply into matters of starters or mezzes or drinks, widely described in the aforementioned articles. So serve as a reminder for future trips to Turkey and for future travelers to the beautiful city of Istanbul.
